Blackpool Karate was founded in 2005. The club believes in teaching to the highest standard possible to help students achieve all their goals in martial arts, but believes this should be done in a fun and friendly environment. We are aware that people will take up Martial arts for different reasons and whatever the reason you may choose to start, we will take you as far as you want to go.
In our classes we work hard, teach new skills but encourage a fun environment for this to happen in. We use different methods of teaching and the younger age groups will often have games in their class that have either a martial art theme, fitness theme or a specific theme pertaining to the lesson. This helps encourage learning in fun and diverse ways.
We continue to grow students all the time so whether its your first lesson, or you have been training for years, you will always have something to improve and Blackpool Karate is proud of how many longstanding students it has.
We teach a style of martial arts called sport Karate, also known as freestyle Karate, semi contact and points fighting.
What is sport Karate?
Sport Karate is a style of martial arts which has developed from tournament fighting. The style used to have people from all different martial arts competing together, such as Karate, Taekwondo, Lau Gar Kung Fu Kickboxing, and more. Over the years a style has been created to incorporate all the best of very style and has evolved over the years to become its own style. Today this style can be seen used by some MMA fighters for their stand up game, including fighters like Michael Venom Page and George St Pierre.
This style focuses on skill over power and teaches fighters how to hit and not get hit, and be able to strike from great distances. This style emphasises speed, with the object being to strike your opponent first.
We believe that punches on the pads should be as strong as can be, but when sparring, a true skilled fighter can control their techniques, and not use all their power but can use all of their speed. .
The classes also teach Continuous Kickboxing which develops boxing skills, hand foot co-ordination and fitness. The style focuses more on close in fighting, giving you abilities to fight at close range and learn how to protect yourself.
